Loading…Baby Base never handles money, so every deal ends face to face. These habits keep it simple and safe.
Baby Base connects buyers and sellers and gives you a place to message each other. We don’t hold payments, ship items, or inspect gear. The sale is between you and the other parent.
Baby Base will never message you asking for a payment, a deposit or your card details. If anyone does, it isn’t us — please report it.
A coffee shop, a shopping-centre entrance, the parking area outside a police station. Bring someone with you if you can. Sellers: you never have to invite a stranger to your home — suggest a public spot instead.
Open the pram, click the car-seat buckle, spin the wheels, plug in the monitor, stand the cot up. Say what you see. If the listing said “Like new” and it isn’t, it’s fine to renegotiate or walk away.
Cash, or an instant EFT you both watch land on your phones. Never pay a deposit to “hold” an item, never pay before you’ve seen it, and never pay anyone other than the seller you’ve been messaging.
Some gear protects a child’s life. Take a minute longer with these.
Every seat has a manufacture date printed on the shell — ask for a photo of it. Most manufacturers say a seat expires 6–10 years after manufacture. Don’t buy a seat that has been in an accident, has cracks, frayed straps or a buckle that doesn’t click firmly, or is missing its base or instructions. Check the manufacturer’s website for recalls before you meet.
Slats should be no more than 6 cm apart, the mattress should fit snugly with no gaps, and everything should be solid with no loose bolts or splinters. Avoid drop-side cots, which are no longer sold new in most countries. A mattress should be firm, clean and free of sagging.
Test it works before you pay. Look for frayed cords and damaged plugs. Keep monitor cords well out of a child’s reach.
Check for loose or broken pieces, button batteries and magnets. Anything that fits through a toilet-roll tube is a choking risk for under-threes.
If something feels wrong, it usually is.
Walk away, and report it. A real person will look at it.
