Account details: your name, email address and password (stored encrypted), and if you sign in with Google, the name, email address and profile picture Google shares with us.
Listing and profile content: the photos, descriptions, prices, condition grades and area you add to listings, and anything you put on your profile.
Messages: messages you send and receive through Baby Base.
Technical information: your IP address, browser and device type, pages visited and the times you use the Platform, collected through server logs and essential cookies.
To create and run your account; to publish your listings and let buyers and sellers message each other; to keep Baby Base safe, investigate reports and prevent fraud; to send you service emails (for example, when you receive a message); to understand how the Platform is used so we can improve it; and to comply with the law.
We process your information because it is necessary to provide the service you asked for, because we have a legitimate interest in running a safe marketplace, or because you have consented. We do not sell your personal information.
Other users: your display name, profile picture and area are visible on your listings and in messages. Your email address is never shown to other users.
Service providers: Baby Base runs on Sharetribe, a marketplace platform whose servers are in the European Union and the United States; Google (sign-in); and an email delivery service for service emails. These providers process information on our behalf under contract.
Authorities: where the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of users.
Because our hosting and email providers are based outside South Africa, your information is stored and processed abroad. We only use providers that are subject to laws or contractual protections that give your information a level of protection substantially similar to POPIA.
We keep your account information for as long as your account is open. If you close your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within 90 days, except where we must keep it longer for legal reasons (for example, records of a report or dispute). Server logs are kept for up to 12 months.
Under POPIA you may ask us to: tell you what personal information we hold about you; correct or delete it; stop using it for a particular purpose; or stop sending you marketing (we don’t send any unless you opt in). Email hello@babybase.co.za and we’ll respond within a reasonable time.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa): complaints.IR@justice.gov.za, www.inforegulator.org.za. Our PAIA manual is available on request.
Baby Base is for adults (18+). Please do not include photos of children in your listings or messages. If we become aware that we hold personal information about a child without appropriate consent, we will delete it.
We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and to keep the Platform secure. If we add analytics in future, we will update this policy and describe what is collected.
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures — encrypted connections, hashed passwords, restricted access — to protect your information. No system is completely secure, so please use a strong, unique password and tell us if you suspect any problem.
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here with an updated date and notify registered users by email of material changes.
